The Linden SDA School seventh-grade STEAM participants, along with their instructor and helpers from the Rego Park Green Alliance have constructed a three-month plan for the creation of the gym renovation floor plan project.
In the span of two weeks, the seventh graders have done a boatload of work concerning the plans for the new gym. In addition to designing detailed floor plans of the optimal views of the gym they would want. The seventh graders formed three groups, and collaborating together, were able to produce floor plans on Sketchup.
In addition to the floor plans, the seventh-graders conducted a lengthy discussion and research project on the health benefits of having a new gym installed in Southeast Queens. Since many of Laurelton, Rosedale and Springfield Gardens’ inhabitants suffer from heart disease, obesity and strokes, the seventh-grade class presented, using research, statistics, and their newfound art of persuasion, the reasons why installing a new gym would be beneficial to some of the less than healthy residents of Southeast Queens. Since many of the major diseases can be prevented with exercise, the class concluded that the addition of the new gym, if used, would help reduce the amount of hospitalizations and deaths due to the diseases.
The seventh-graders are continuing to make large strides with their gym renovation project, and laying the groundwork, getting to the bottom of it, the reasons why the gym is needed, and how their efforts and hard work can produce it.
