What an exciting past couple of weeks. All the children have done well in providing their creative ideas for a crystal currency project. Their assignment was for them to design and pick a logo name that would visually express what their group of their business is about. From crystal art to basketballs with crystals they have tried a little bit of everything.
Every week the children have been meeting to discuss their economic project. This week they’re meeting to discuss the final touches for their advertisement display. The small project of creating an advertisement is indeed simple. Most ads simply require a product, a price, and contact/location. What children and some adults have yet to realize that every color chosen for ad is for a reason. In commercials quick flashing lights etc are all marketing tools used to reel consumers in.
Initially I wanted to put up certain limitations in this project but I strongly did not wish to limit their creativity. Clearly the word savage means a lot to theme assuming influenced by some so called artist and of course basketball. They have come up with such names or better yet acronyms as N.B.A. which the 6th grade so proudly shouted “Never Broke Again”.
After this week meeting they will all understand the benefits and downfall of some of their choices. Specifically in regards to their logo designs. Their group names as well their color choices. So far the children have enjoyed the small steps into starting a business and soon the experience of running one too.
DIVAS (Digital Interactive Visual Arts Sciences) for Social Justice aims to bridge the digital divide by combining media literacy and cultural awareness along with a vast understanding of technology to encourage young women in under served communities to pursue careers in computer science and new media.
