For the past few weeks, the eighth graders at the Linden SDA STEAM For Social Change Program have been working on honing their basics skills as reporters, journalists and editors. They have assembled into teams and have begun practicing how to conduct interviews and throw pitches to each other and the editor-in-chief.
They have worked tirelessly on creating both biased and unbiased pitches using stories to improve their writing skills, as well as learning how to successfully conduct interviews. They have watched both presidential debates and learned how to formulate opinions of political affairs, and how to separate their personal views when debating and/or writing an article.
Now that they have the basics of journalism down–seeking out information and translating the information to well-written work, they are excited to begin writing articles to be published on their very own page on Laurelton.nyc, and I am happy to lead them as they begin this experience.
