The students have been working closely with the sewing machines. I have been showing them step by step how they can sew their own handmade handkerchiefs and hair wraps/bandannas and pillow cases. The students cut 13×13 inch pieces of fabric for the handkerchief and 25×25 inch fabric for the hair wraps/bandannas. I demonstrated the sewing techniques needed to complete each handmade craft. While some students were working with the sewing machines, others will be working on the summer splash mural.
Students have been working together to brainstorm ideas for the summer splash mural. They will be drawing summer themed sketches such as the sun, trees, flowers, beaches, and birds. They will apply these drawings to the mural poster and eventually use paint to color them in. They will also be utilizing the glitter, colored pencils/markers, and various colored paint to decorate the mural. This activity promotes creativity and teamwork. The students enjoy working together and are excited to see the end result of the Summer Splash Mural.
