The students of the Linden SDA DIVAS STEAM program have come to the end of their participation in the Nike Zoom League. Both teams improved upon their performance each game. We went from scoring 7 points a game in our JV games and giving up 40 points to scoring 27 points in our last game and losing by 6. Our varsity team went from losing our first game by 30 points to winning our second game. We missed qualifying for the playoffs by one game after losing by 5 points in our final game.
Our effort, pride and team spirit were recognized and praised by other programs. Our attention to detail and execution of our game plan gave us opportunities to thrive as a team. Our lack of experience defeated us at the end of the day. The students were disappointed they did not qualify for the playoffs yet they were happy and proud they had a chance to participate in organized basketball games. Most importantly the participants had fun!!! Their families, friends and the community watched the students display the talents and skills they have been working on after school and at home. The prospects looking forward are great as the students know what to expect next time around. Some of the first time students who were tentative about joining the team, playing basketball and performing in front of others cannot wait until the next game or team opportunity.
The students now know what individual and team skills they need to improve upon moving forward. Learning continues on and off the court… Season one of Nike Zoom League is in the books!!!
