This past week the children have dealt with the topic of self-esteem and how it has an effect on our daily lives. We also went around the classroom for the students to define in their own words what does self-worth mean to them in addition to how to value their self-worth. We also explored how the disparaging images people of color see every day could have an effect on their self-esteem. We also explored how certain slogans were created to combat those images such as ” My Black is Beautiful” or ” Black Boy Joy “
DIVAS (Digital Interactive Visual Arts Sciences) for Social Justice aims to bridge the digital divide by combining media literacy and cultural awareness along with a vast understanding of technology to encourage young women in under served communities to pursue careers in computer science and new media.
