For the past two weeks the students have been learning the elements of telling a story. Each grade will have the opportunity to tell a story in a unique fashion. The 6th grade class is working on telling a story through news reporting. This week they learned how to research and gather elements of a news story. They worked together in small groups to create catchy headlines, gather quotes and construct a full news piece. It was very exciting for them to brainstorm within their various group ideas on how best to present their stories.
In addition the students are learning the importance of proper camera technique. It is through the camera lens that their stories will be created. The students have learned how to properly frame a shot with various camera angles. The knowledge of the camera angles will allow the students to better express themselves as they create their compelling stories.
DIVAS (Digital Interactive Visual Arts Sciences) for Social Justice aims to bridge the digital divide by combining media literacy and cultural awareness along with a vast understanding of technology to encourage young women in under served communities to pursue careers in computer science and new media.
