Welcome Week at STEAM

Arts and Crafts

In the Arts and Crafts class, students are beginning to create, decorate, and build their own personalized folder. Their folder will include the following:

  • Classroom rules.
  • Welcome Letter to Parents.
  • Around the Room Icebreaker activity.
  • Additional upcoming Arts and Crafts activities.

The objective for the first week of the STEAM program was to prepare for the upcoming year and introduce themselves to each other. We wanted the students to participate in the Around the Room activity in order to adapt to the new changes of the program and to get familiar with the school’s environment. All activities are going to reflect the theme of the Laurelton community.

During the “Around the Room” icebreaker activity, students were given a list of positive adjectives that they can choose from. Students selected 8 words that started with the same letter as their first initial of their first name that best described themselves. They also chose 8 words that started with the first initial of their last name that best described themselves.  The goal of this activity was for the students to get to know each other and introduce themselves to the Staff of the STEAM program. This was also put in place to encourage students to think optimistically about themselves and to start the year on a positive note.

Future activities will include the following:

  • Various seasonal Murals.
  • Sewing activities.
  • Airbrush design activities.
  • A quilt to represent the Laurelton Community.
  • Additional upcoming Arts and Crafts activities.

At STEAM for Social Change, it is essential that the students stay engaged and involved in their community. One of our many hopes for this program is to give the students the opportunity to use their creativity to express themselves. I believe that the program sets high standards for the students to help them succeed in their education and enhance their future. We encourage the Parents to support their children and help them set high expectations for themselves. The Arts and Crafts class is a judgment-free zone which allows for students to become more confident in the artwork that they display throughout the school. Together with the assistance from Parents, we can help improve the children’s confidence and also the Laurelton Community.
