They say a picture says a thousand words, well my students interpreted those photos and creates something funny with it. My young scholars engaged in a lesson that required them to make memes. They channeled their energy, their identity and created interpretation of photos based on their identity. Instead of using stock images, students took each others photos and created something funny with their own images. 
DIVAS (Digital Interactive Visual Arts Sciences) for Social Justice aims to bridge the digital divide by combining media literacy and cultural awareness along with a vast understanding of technology to encourage young women in under served communities to pursue careers in computer science and new media.
