What a wonderful summer it has been here at STEAM Camp, we would like to thank Macon Library for opening up its space and allowing us to teach photography, 3D printing, story telling, online journalism, and arts and crafts to the children of the Bed-Stuy neighborhood.
We are ending our summer with a SnapChat Fashion Show, the show exhibits the tye-dye shirts, floral headbands and superhero mask the students have been working on. They are not just your regular superheroes such as batman or Spiderman, they are superheroes for social justice. Standing for social justice issues such as an increase in community gardens, safer streets, computer literacy and many more, it was important this summer that students did not only learn new technical skills but also that they can use these skills to make a difference in their community.
As facilitators it is always a pleasure to see how the students use the tools we have here at the camp and create their own stories and art. It is important for us that the summer is more than just about going outside and playing sports, but that the STEAM campers learn a new skill and learn things about their community that they may not learn during the school year.
STEAM will continue during the school year at Macon Library and we hope you will join us in continuing to learn about science, technology, engineering , arts and math.
