What an exciting second week at STEAM Camp, the students learned about African America figures within the sports community. With help from Ms.K they did not only learn about the history and accomplishments of athletes such as Mohammad Ali and Stephen Curry, but also their social justice work. Using research skills and learning new tools and shortcuts in Microsoft Word, the students wrote stories about these athletes and their work to better underprivileged communities. We continued with our theme of sports and storytelling, by learning about storyboarding and how that is the first step in creating a movie. The students storyboarded stories that reflected athletes that were either underdogs or had to over come social injustices. They excelled in this activity and created storyboards that were concise, thought out and and had an excellent moral.
This week we also introduced this week our theme for that will perpetuate through the summer, the theme is how can we use SnapChat for social justice. Many of the students knew about the application SnapChat, but they did not realize that SnapChat can be used for change.
