On Friday, May 11th, the middle school students of Trey Whitfield with Steam took a trip to East New York Farms!
The students had a really great learning experience about community gardening and the hard work that goes into it.
Not only did they get a taste of the effort that goes into maintaining a garden, but how spaces like this truly bring people together in the community!

We even had a conversation with the students about certain weeds and their health benefits- such as chickweed, mugwort, and mint leaves! As we see below, Jasmine is holding a big pile of chickweed!
Overall, it was a great experience. The students also learned how to make gardening beds! There’s no doubt that Trey Whitfield’s Steam students took back a lot of tools that they’ll be applying to their own garden- “Our Roots!”
