Defense sets the tone, separates winners from losers and wins championships. Good principles are learned and earned. Good form begins with a base. Get and stay low. Stay on your toes. Never let your heels hit the ground. Feet shoulder width apart. Keeping hands high and active (One hand on the ball with the other in the ball handlers face or in the passing lane).
After learning and reinforcing these individual principles for a week we put them into affect.
These individual skills are only part of the equation. A team concept consists of applying these skills along with spacing, communication and discipline to not only do your part but to also trust in your teammates to do the same.
Everyone likes to score. The easiest way to create baskets is on the defensive side of the ball. Anticipation, vision and communication are skills to be used on both sides of the court.
Have active hands stay low, slide your feet and stay on your toes!!! We have been reinforcing our defensive principles. Anyone can score. Defense is the defining factor in being great. These fundamental footwork drills are a base to build upon and refer to at all levels of competition.
Stay aggressive. Stay disciplined.
